MEET THE ARTIST


Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tatyana Nadgor. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine. Nineteen years ago, I came to the United States from what was formally known as the USSR. I was trained as a naval architect and mechanical engineer but switched careers upon arriving to America and became an interior designer.

As a first generation immigrant I struggled a lot, worked hard to earn my place under the sun, raise children and advance professionally. At the same time, art had a steady and profound impact on my life. I became a docent volunteer at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and a member of different art organizations.

Ten years ago, I saw the Grandma Moses exhibition at the New Britain Museum of Art and was impressed that she started painting at the age of 72. The story of her life and her art inspired me to try painting myself. I am a self-taught artist and paint not what I see but what I know and feel. My paintings express my zest for life and my sense of humor. My works are influenced by people, events, travel and music. In fact, what I initially saw as my "little hobby" to make people smile turned into a desire to create not just a “pretty” art but to make a statement. I participated in several juried art shows and was published in newspapers. I won first place in the 2009 juried NAACP exhibition. My works are in private collections across the USA and in Europe.
